Every so often I go through a dark period when all I have are negative thoughts and emotions. They were either too dark to put down on paper (physical or digital), or I felt too depressed to do so. During these times, I usually turn to quotes and music to help me work through each thought and emotion.
Hence, my absence the past few weeks.
I’d like to share a few quotes that have helped me:
“Without trials and tribulation, there would be no hero. Without a hero, there would be no story. Without a story, there is no life as life is made up of vignettes of loving, learning and overcoming.”-Chrissy Gibson
“You will lose someone you can’t live without, and your heart will be badly broken, and the bad news is that you never completely get over the loss of your beloved. But this is also the good news. They live forever in your broken heart that doesn’t seal back up. And you come through. It’s like having a broken leg that never heals perfectly—that still hurts when the weather gets cold, but you learn to dance with the limp.”-Anne Lamott
“That is all I want in life: for this pain to seem purposeful.”-Elizabeth Wurtzel, Prozac Nation
It feels like the older I get, the bouts with both anxiety and depression grow more frequent and intense. The key for me is not to stay there. No matter how deep that hole I’ve fallen into is, I need to find the strength to dig back out. Back to the surface. Back to the living.
So, what keeps me coming back then?
